                                                              Ways to Help

Prayer - the most important gift

Please make a commitment to pray for all children who are battling childhood cancer.  Pray for the doctors and researchers who are providing care and working to find a cure.  Pray that childhood cancer research will get the needed funding so that someday no more children will have their childhood changed by cancer.

Items and Services

At Lifestream for Kids we work tirelessly behind the scenes in order to ensure continual support is available for these children.

As such, we are always looking for donations of supplies and general operational support.

Below are a few examples of things that would greatly benefit our organization.

Event Supplies

1. Event Supplies - (Chairs, decorations, food, plates, tables, etc.)

2. Auction Items - (Antiques, art, sports memorabilia, etc.)

Office Supplies

1. Mailing - (Envelopes, stamps, etc.)

2. Office - (Computers,printers, laptops,software, etc.)

3. Printing - (Ink cartridges, labels, paper, etc. )

How you can volunteer

There are many ways to help at Lifestream for Kids. You can work one of our events, sell raffle tickets, solicit donations, or almost anything else. The opportunities are many, all you need is a desire to help, and we will find a place for you.

Monetary Donations

Often, treatment for cancer in children is deemed "experimental", and is thus not covered by insurance. This, coupled with the already burdensome medical bills associated with cancer, leads to an enormous amount of additional stress for the family.

Due to these expenses, parents often cannot afford to take any additional time off to spend with their children during their ordeal. Not only that, but the additional expenses can also lead to a loss of car or  residence, and can even prevent the child from receiving experimental treatments that could lead to a cure.

Monetary donations are the best way to help (as no overhead is involved like fundraisers). However, if you are unable to make a monetary donation at this time, please consider an item donation for use in fundraisers, or even a donation of your time.

Any and all assistance is greatly appreciated.

                                                                    Leaving a Legacy

A legacy is a bequest in your Will. It is a tax effective way to make a difference to the health of future generations.

There are two types of legacy:

1. Residuary bequest – this means that once family and loved ones have been provided for, the remainder, or a proportion of the estate is pledged to one or more charities.

2. Pecuniary bequest – this means that you can pledge a specific sum of money to a particular charity.

What are the benefits?

Whatever your estate is worth, by leaving a legacy to Lifestream for Kids, you can make all the difference to the health of future generations. A bequest to Lifestream for Kids enables you to make a planned gift to a charity, whilst ensuring dependants are provided for. Charitable Legacies are paid before tax is deducted, reducing the total amount of inheritance tax due from your estate.

How do they work?

You can either name a charity in your will or leave a sum of money to the executors with instructions as to how and to whom the estate is to be distributed. If you have a lawyer of solicitor, they should be able to provide you with information as to how charitable legacies can be incorporated within your will.

Where do I go from here?

You should always consult a professional such as a solicitor or financial advisor to be sure your will reflects your exact intentions and that you understand the tax implications. Before you contact an advisor take a few minutes to think about exactly what you want to do.

What if I change my mind?

Many people put off making a will in case they change their minds about legacies and bequests in later years. However, once you have made a will, the original contents can be changed or added using a codicil and this will not involve rewriting your entire will. The codicil has to be signed and witnessed in the same way as the will itself, although the witnesses do not have to be the same. The codicil must be kept with, but not affixed to your will.
